Worst Films Ever

.

It was a tough call. There were worthy nominees galore, and while films like Hum Saath Saath Hain, Om Shanti Om, Karan Arjun and Jhoom Barabar Jhoom almost crawled onto the list, they didn't quite make the top 10.

It's a great list, honestly. Here's a look at your 10 worst ever films, readers:

10. Neal N Nikki

2008's Big Bollywood Hits so far

Clearly Yash Raj Films' biggest debacle, readers weren't impressed by Tanisha's desperate attempts at conjuring up cleavage or by Uday Chopra's lipstick. This is one depressingly sad film.

9. Don

TOP 10 Music hits of 2008

With great condescension, readers call it Farhan Akhtar Ka Don. Hit or not, readers couldn't stomach Shah Rukh Khan trying to step into Amitabh Bachchan's shoes -- and one of the Big B's coolest roles ever, at that. A bad wannabe film.

8. No Somking

There are some who loved Anurag Kashyap's No Smoking, but beyond those 15 people, there really aren't many takers for this deeply personal experimental film that -- for all its bravado and frenetic recklessness -- eventually stumbles. And it's not a pretty picture.

7. Mangal Pandey

Aamir Khan usually alternates a good film with a hideous one, and this -- a comeback film after the glory of Dil Chahta Hai -- falls firmly into the latter. Mangal cavorts with buxom courtesans while English officers are drawn to strangely cadaverous widows... Argh, indeed.

6. Saawariya

Indian Premier League 2008 Full Story

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas almost made it to the list, but that excessive film was a huge hit and obviously had its takers. Not so for this bright blue blunder, which bombed unanimously. Going from a sweet Dostoevsky tale and turning it into this cardboard catastrophe takes some doing, honestly.

5. Mela

Indian Premier League 2009 Updates

Yet another of Aamir's bad days, this one featured brother Faisal's big-screen debut, set to the beats of Twinkle Khanna's thumkas. A throwback to the worst kind of 1980s-1990s cinema, this one's impossible to sit through, no matter how inebriated you may be.

4. Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani

Star cast of "Kahaani Hamaaray Mahaabhaarat Ki"

Ah, well done readers, really. The Jaani Dushman remake is an absolute doozy, and here are points to director Rajkumar Kohli for titling a remake 'a unique story.' With Manisha Koirala and Sunny Deol wading in a sea of ghastly actors -- Sonu Nigam, Sunil Shetty, Aftab Shivdasani, Aditya Pancholi, Rambha... -- this is one insanely amusing film, for all the wrong reasons.

3. Clerk

Face of Indian Television TOP 10

Now this is a true classic. Remember when we were talking about movies that were so bad they were good ? Well, this is a true one of a kind spectacular, with director Manoj Kumar, then 52, opting for schoolboy flashbacks featuring himself. Oh, the insanity.

2. Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag

Ramp got hot after Bollywood stars walkssss

Remakes don't go down well with our readers, and Ram Gopal Varma poked everyone hard with his godawful take on Sholay. Featuring Amitabh as Babban Singh and Ajay Devgan as Heero (really), it's hard to choose the worst bit of this film. Nisha Kothari, Urmila's tacky Mehbooba, Sushmita Sen going all horror-movie, the dialogues... it's all horrible.

1. Boom

Not too many people watched Kaizad Gustad's ludicrous 2003 release, but for all those who actually sat through it and felt each painful moment, the agony still lingers.

Hideous dialogue, a painful premise, and characters culled from rejected Guy Ritchie liner noters made this movie impossible to salvage, even by Katrina Kaif, Madhu Sapre and Padma Lakshmi showing off their bodies and their complete lack of acting skills.

Bachchan behaved like a buffoon, Jackie Shroff lost it entirely, Zeenat Aman was just embarrassing and, excuse me, what was Bo Derek doing here anyway?
