Aamir Khan is known to walk the path less travelled. And has done so again by choosing to release the music of his upcoming film "3 Idiots" online and getting the parents of composer Shantanu Moitra and lyricist Swanand Kirkire to grace the event.

Though he is not the producer or the director, Aamir was instrumental in organising the music release of the much awaited film.

Moitra and Kirkire are touched by the actor's gesture to call their parents instead of a Bollywood biggie to launch the music.

"It was Aamir's idea to release the music online and get it released by my and Shantanu's parents. This is something that is not done usually. We felt so nice," Kirkire said

This is the first time that Kirkire, who has written lyrics for films like "Eklavya: The Royal Guard", "Lage Raho Munna Bhai", "Parineeta" and "Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi", has worked for an Aamir starrer.

Moitra, too, was overwhelmed by the 44-year-old's gesture and said it was not only an honour for him, but for his parents too.

"My mother had a small accident few days before the launch and I was in two minds about taking her from Delhi to Mumbai.

But Aamir messaged saying that on occasions like these it is great if we can have our parents with us so I should get them flown. He didn't have to but he still messaged," Moitra said over the phone.

"It was a great honour for my parents to stand amidst such stars and launch their child's work. I was happy but it was also a very happy moment for my parents to see their son do well," he added.

Moitra has also scored music for films like "Khoya Khoya Chand", "Lage Raho Munna Bhai", "Yahaan" and "Parineeta" among others.

Based on Chetan Bhagat's bestseller "Five Point Someone", "3 Idiots" also stars Kareena Kapoor as well as R. Madhavan and Sharman Joshi. It is slated for a Dec 25 release.

Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif's look-alike Barbie doll has arrived in the country. It was designed to mark Barbie's 50 years.

"All Doll'd Up" special show dedicated to Barbie at the Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai earlier this year.

She sported a small pink dress designed by well-known designer Neeta Lulla's daughter Nishka. The 'Katrina Barbie' will be wearing the same design.

"I've been a part of the entire process of doll making and it's been quite fascinating.

Since, I've been travelling out of Mumbai for the promotions of my movies; unfortunately I've not been able to see it yet. I'm really looking forward to see the doll as soon as I get back," Katrina said in a statement.

A product of Mattel Toys, the Katrina Barbie -- a commemorative product -- is not for sale.

Set in eastern Uttar Pradesh, "Ishqiya" is a tale of romance between individuals caught in a web of crime, suspense, passion and deceit. Directed by first time director Abhishek Chaubhey and produced by Vishal Bharadwaj, the film also stars Arshad Warsi and Naseeruddin Shah.
In "Ishqiya", Vidya is paired with Arshad and plays a village woman.
"As I am playing a rural girl, my look is very much deglamourised so that I look like my character Krishna. It is an interesting role with many shades," said Vidya.

Sanjay Dutt's schedule has gone haywire, all thanks to the beard that he has grown for his role in Mani Shankar's "Knock Out".

The beard was supposed to come off this month after the completion of the schedule for Shankar's film. But Sanjay's mentor, Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh, played the spoilsport when he asked him to campaign for the assembly elections in Maharashtra and it affected the shooting schedule.

"But suddenly Sanjay got a call from Amar Singh asking him to campaign for the assembly elections in Maharashtra.

Sanjay immediately gave the dates required. As a result, his schedules were thrown off by two weeks," said the source.

Two weeks in itself would've not been such a setback were it not for the beard. Apparently, Sanjay refused to shave off the beard to work on other pending projects simultaneously with "Knock Out".

"Sanjay feels a false beard would cut into the authenticity of his character in 'Knock Out'. He refused to shave off the beard and take on the other projects after the delay caused by the assembly elections. He requested other producers to push dates until he could finish with his bearded look," said the source.

The actor has now decided he will hold a 'look' for his film even if it means cutting down on his assignments. In fact, after he was unable to shave off his beard during "Knock Out", he gave others producers the option of signing someone else.

Yes, of course. In fact there's a moment in the film...but anyway, let people watch it [trails off distractedly].
Fortunately, it happened when I was not shooting. There was just one song left. Kiran and I took a couple of months off together. If I were shooting, I'd have had to absorb it. It is very difficult for me to cancel shooting. The financial repercussions, even the creative repercussions of cancelling are huge.

*How do you choose your scripts?*
Three things. One, it should excite me. Two, the director should make me confident. Three, the producer has to back the team up, market the film well.

Yes, we got some things wrong. It should not have centred around me. It's a story of two friends, and not exclusively that of Mangal Pandey. There shouldn't have been posters with just me in them. But my film was hitting screens after four years after Dil Chahta Hai, and there were a lot of expectations. I got carried away. The pitch was wrong. We were not totally honest. We put too many songs to make a difficult film palatable to a larger audience.

Having said that, few know that Mangal Pandey grossed more than a lot of hit films. It made a surprising amount of money despite underachieving in creative terms.

*You have been very critical of the media. Do you see media doing a good job?*
I think so. There are different kinds of people in all walks of life, journalism is no exception and I've come to accept it. But because of the power media wields, it has brought in a lot of accountability.

It has become much more difficult for people in the government, administration or elsewhere to misuse power.

*Have you liked any film lately?*
I am not a big film viewer. Embarrassing when people ask when I've seen a movie last. It could be two years ago.

*Haven't you watched anything lately?*
A couple of films. But there's nothing to say [smiles]. Jaane do na.

*Apparently there was a time many years ago when Shah Rukh, Salman and you used to meet as a trio, hang out together. What happened?*
Yes, we used to hang out together. Over the years, Salman and I have come closer. We have grown fond of each other. We have respect and regard for each other. We enjoy each other's company. In fact, we hang out more than we used to earlier. Not daily, but often.

Shah Rukh and I have, over the years, not hung out together so much. We meet every now and then. Again, I have a lot of respect for Shah Rukh as a star, and find his films entertaining.

*What's your favourite Shah Rukh movie?*
Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. My clear favourite.

*Why did you stick your neck out for Kiran Bedi as Right To Information (RTI) chief?*
This is one Act, which can really empower us as a democracy. So it is well worth it for each Indian, even the prime minister, to protect it fiercely. No one should be able to mess with that.

We are suggesting that the RTI chief be Kiran Bedi. If not, tell us why not she and why somebody else. Our concern is that the method in which currently the RTI chief is selected now is not that transparent and inclusive. We must invite public debate on this.

Shilpa Shetty, who gets married to industrialist Raj Kundra tomorrow, is having a sangeet and mehendi ceremony at her best friend Kiran Bawa's bungalow in Khandala today. But Shilpa and her family are completely stressed out.

Says a source close to Shilpa, "Poor Shilpa, her sister Shamita and their mother Sunanda are all feeling very low as her dad Surendra Shetty was suddenly taken to the ICU on Thursday night at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Andheri.

He has malaria. By Friday morning his condition improved and he was taken out from the ICU. This has put a dampener on the wedding festivities.

Shilpa is extremely close to her parents and sister and unfortunately because of his poor health, her father won't be able to attend Shilpa's mehendi and sangeet ceremony today."

The source adds, "Thank God everything was diagnosed overnight and her dad was given the correct treatment on time or he wouldn't have been able to do the kanyadaan.

If that had happened, Shilpa would have been devastated. Even now, the whole thing has cast a shadow on the marriage proceedings, but Shilpa is happy that her dad will be able to give her away!"

On a more cheerful note, the source says that for the mehendi ceremony, instead of the usual chaniya choli, lehenga or sari, Shilpa has chosen to be different.

"Shilpa will be wearing a hot pink silk kaftan with zari work and Swarovski crystals done by Tarun Tahiliani (who has also designed the wedding sari).

Veena Nagra, who has done the mehendi for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Amrita Arora Ladhak and other B-Town actresses will be doing Shilpa's mehendi too.

Raj will also be casually attired. Shamita will be wearing a gold and peach salwar kameez designed by Manish Malhotra today, and for the wedding, an anarkali-cut salwar-kameez in mauve and blue by Tarun Tahiliani.

Says Shamita, "I have barely had time to get my outfits stitched for Shilpa's wedding as I left BB house only a week ago. For Shilpa's wedding I have two options a lehenga or a sari.

One is designed by Neeta Lulla and the other by Manish Malhotra. I still haven't been able to shift gears from the BB house. I feel as if I am functioning on auto-pilot sometimes."

Shamita plans to take a small break after Shilpa's marriage. And who does she think will win BB? "I hope it's either Aditi Gowitrikar or Bakhtiyar Irani as both are my friends."
