Amar Akbar Anthony

That Amar Akbar Anthony will be remade is old news now. The Khan brothers -- Salman, Arbaaz and Sohail -- will reprise the roles made famous by Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna and Rishi Kapoor.
.
Watch out for the three Khans in ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’
.
After the Bachchans turned ‘Sarkar Raj’ into one of the biggest blockbusters this year, B-town’s another star family is all set to follow suit and capitalise on the cheesy family card. And it’s not just any 'filmi' family we are talking about. It’s the very glamorous Khan 'Khandan' brothers – Salman, Sohail and Arbaaz, who will soon be seen sharing screen space for the remake of 1970s’ hit film, ‘Amar Akbar Antony’.
.
Not surprisingly the film has been titled ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ and is being directed by David Dhawan. What’s interesting is that the director is not fiddling with the storyline. However, going by his natural comic streak, David is aiming to add saucy punches and humorous notes to bring the flick at par with its earlier predecessor.
.
Unlike the seventies’ original that saw Vinod Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor play the role of three brothers who are separated in their childhood, David is vying to cash upon the Khan trio by presenting the real life brothers on reel.
.
.
According to reports, Salman plays the role of Anthony originally essayed by Amitabh Bachchan; Arbaaz is being casted as Amar earlier played by Vinod Khanna; while Sohail will play the role of Akbar previously performed on screen by Rishi Kapoor. As far as chalking out the three leading ladies for the Khan trio, here too David is not looking far.
.
Sources have told Spicezee that the director is strongly considering Sallu’s ladylove Katrina Kaif for the role, formerly played by Parveen Babi. So we are more likely to see the couple romancing on the silver screen in the coming year. As far as Arbaaz and Sohail are concerned, we are keeping our fingers crossed that the director does not rope in Arbaaz’s real life partner Mallika as the two are sure shot recipe for disaster on the big screen.
.
Well, all we can say is that David has some tough task ahead of him. Going by the fact that the original flick was a super success, here’s hoping that the remake is well received by the audience and is met by a better fate than the earlier filthy remake ‘Ram Gopal Verma Ki Aag’ that made a grubby attempt to copy the magic of ‘Sholay’.

The latest buzz doing the rounds is that Katrina Kaif has joined the cast, and will be seen in Parveen Babi's role.

This will be the second time that Salman and Katrina will romance each other on screen -- the first time being in the hit, Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya.

Sohail Khan has bought the rights of Manmohan Desai's 1977 blockbuster.

The new version will be directed by David Dhawan. It is likely to go on air early next year, after Salman completes his film, Veer, with Anil Sharma.
