We feel sorry to declare that after the debacle of ‘Jhoom Barabar Jhoom’ and ‘Apne’, the film ‘Chamku’ could not do even a bit to revive Bobby Deol’s nose-diving career. The Bobby Deol- Priyanka Chopra starrer is nothing but a worthless attempt by the director, which is too ridiculous to be taken seriously. The supporting cast of the film includes some immensely talented actors like Danny Denzongpa, Irrfan Khan and Rajpal Yadav (potential completely wasted). Movie Review
‘Chamku’, which sounds more like a comedy is far from laughs, is actually based on the series theme of naxalism. The story revolves around Chandrama Singh aka Chaman Varma aka Chamku, who is raised by the Naxalites after he is a docile eye witness to the brutal killing of his father. After he survives a police encounter, he gets caught under a secret program jointly conceived by RAW and Intelligence Bureau to follow some political assassinations. Television TOP TEN
Of course, poor Chamku wants to quit the killing fields but there seems to be no exit available. Then with some stroke of luck, an intelligent agency officer makes a deal with Chamku: he now becomes a state sponsored assassin. Cricket Update
Out of the blue, we see Chamku staring glumly at the sea, wearing designer goggles, leather pants and a spiffy jacket. He then finds the love of his life in Shubhi (Priyanka Chopra), a kindergarten teacher. Post ‘God Tussi Great Ho’, Priyanka squanders away in yet another meaningless role that asks nothing of her except some daft giggles, her designer chiffon saris and sexy blouses. Todays Breaking News
However, Bobby, as a Naxalite, tried to do his best to live up to his portrayal, but poor boy with impassive eyes and grim mouth seemed to have been striving for something too heavy for him to achieve. Beyond a point, the ceaseless brutality becomes predictable and starts taking a toll on your nerves. Although ‘Chamku’ (the film and the character) had the potential to be a perceptive movie about a cruel system, but the film manages to be only sporadically engaging. Unfortunately, this one is nothing more than a big yawn!

After this Priyanka Chopra is purely eligible for FLOP ACTRESS of the year 2008.
